How do artists use their work to highlight issues of animal welfare? In order to answer this question, students will explore the work of several artists dealing with a variety of animal welfare concerns, including habitat loss, ivory poaching, animal cruelty and marine pollution. Artistically, students will examine how colours and symbols are used in arts practice to communicate ideas and emotions. This will lead to students producing their own artworks that respond to an aspect of animal welfare of interest to them. The focus of student artwork will be on the design process, rather than the finished product. As a result, the examples given will be drawn from a variety of media, including graphic design, painting, drawing, animation, photography and even cartooning.
