Early Stage 1 will be exploring a range of instruments to see how they make sound. This will support their classroom unit on materials.
Stage 1 will be combining different instruments in a variety of ways while learning basic musical structures such as unison and call/response. Students who wish to expand their learning could listen to music groups and practise identifying which instruments are playing. Stage 2 will be having a well earned break from music after spending all of last term twittering away on the recorder. [Students who wish to continue their development of recorder skills will have the opportunity to join a lunchtime recorder group, subject to passing a simple audition]. Stage 3 will be observing how music functions in support of dance, noting the use of beat and rhythm, exploring the creation of mood and examining how music can provide a cultural setting for dance. Students wishing to stretch their experience of music and dance could make similar observations when viewing music videos of their own choosing.
I have open a number of pages under the Music Hub tab that will support students investigating musical sources (including my current favourite instrument, the hang drum!). In addition, the links below have some excellent videos explaining a range of orchestral instruments. Enjoy!
